Customer satisfaction survey

Khảo sát mức độ hài lòng của khách hàng

PART 1 AUDIO
ENGLISH TRANSCRIPT

MAN: Hello. Do you mind if I ask you some questions about your journey today? We’re doing a customer satisfaction survey.

SOPHIE: Yes. I’ve got about ten minutes before my train home leaves. I’m on a day trip.

MAN: What do you do?

SOPHIE: I’m a journalist. (Q1)

MAN: Was the reason for your visit work?

SOPHIE: It’s my day off. I came here to do some shopping. (Q2) I sometimes come here for work.

MAN: Which station are you travelling back to?

SOPHIE: Staunfirth (Q3), where I live.

MAN: What kind of ticket did you buy?

SOPHIE: A normal return (Q4) ticket. I paid £23.70. (Q5)

SOPHIE: I got an e-ticket online. (Q6)

MAN: What were you least satisfied with?

SOPHIE: There was a delay (Q7). The train was about 15 minutes late.

MAN: What are you most satisfied with at the station?

SOPHIE: The amount of information (Q8) about train times is much clearer.

MAN: Anything you’re not satisfied with?

SOPHIE: There aren’t enough places to sit, especially on the platforms. (Q9)

MAN: What about the parking (Q10)?

SOPHIE: I never use it, so I’m neither satisfied nor dissatisfied.

PART 2

Croft Valley Park

Công viên Croft Valley

PART 2 AUDIO
ENGLISH TRANSCRIPT

The basic arrangement of Croft Valley Park has not changed: it still has north and south gates and a lake in the middle. The café remains next to the old museum, looking over the lake. (Q11)

The toilets will be moved nearer to the centre; they are currently near the adventure playground. (Q12)

The formal gardens have been replanted. They are now near the south gate, between the boundary and the path beside the lake. (Q13)

A new outdoor gym is by the glass houses, to the right of the path from the south gate, partly hidden in the trees. (Q14)

The skateboard ramp is near the old museum, at the end of a small path from the main path between the lake and museum. (Q15)

A new wild-flower area is on a bend on the east side of the lake, just south of the adventure playground. (Q16)

The adventure playground is a new facility in a large space to the north. It is open all year, closes earlier in winter and entrance is free. (Q17/Q18) Children can choose activities regardless of age, but adults should not leave them alone. (Q17/Q18)

The glass houses were repaired after a fire destroyed the western side. Over £80,000 was spent replacing glass walls, metal supports and plants. They are currently open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday. (Q19/Q20)

PART 3

Refrigeration

Sự phát triển của công nghệ làm lạnh

PART 3 AUDIO
ENGLISH TRANSCRIPT

ANNIE: Icehouses were often built in shady areas or underground near lakes. Insulating ice blocks with straw or sawdust meant they did not melt for months. (Q21)

The Romans dug pits, imported snow from the mountains, and stored it. Ice formed at the bottom. Both ice and snow were sold. (Q22)

Old fridges can harm the environment, but organisations recycle components. Some people dump them in the countryside, and it is difficult to stop this. (Q23)

Domestic fridges last about 11 years on average, and many last 20 or more, so their cost per year is not high. (Q24)

They plan to discuss the range of goods refrigerated today (Q25), including food, drinks, flowers, medicines and computers. Annie will research computers (Q26).

They also discuss the effects of refrigeration on people’s health (Q26), food producers and cities such as Las Vegas, as well as refrigerated trucks (Q29) and domestic fridges (Q30).

JACK: I could not find two editorials on the same topic (Q28). ANNIE: I’ll research the health section (Q27) and current domestic fridges (Q30).

PART 4

Consumerism during the Industrial Revolution

Chủ nghĩa tiêu dùng trong Cách mạng Công nghiệp

PART 4 AUDIO
ENGLISH TRANSCRIPT

This presentation examines the social history of Britain during the Industrial Revolution and how ordinary lives changed. Consumerism emerged as buying and selling became important in daily life.

In the nineteenth century, the quantity and quality of possessions indicated the wealth (Q31) of the country. Improvements in manufacturing and technology (Q32) caused major social changes.

The Industrial Revolution depended on new sources of power (Q33), especially steam and coal, replacing watermills and windmills. Textiles were the most advanced industry (Q34), making fashionable fabrics, lace and ribbons available to everyone.

Large new machines (Q35) produced goods faster and on a larger scale, so factories replaced small workshops and workers moved from villages to towns.

Canals and then railways improved transport. Railways carried goods and also newspapers (Q36), giving people more information about the country and what shops sold. Faster transport meant goods could be distributed beyond the local (Q37) market.

Retail changed as department stores grew. Improved lighting (Q38) made goods easier to see, while plate glass allowed much larger shop windows (Q39). Advertising (Q40) shifted from simply informing customers to persuading them to shop. Goods that had been luxuries became conveniences and then necessities.
